Courses & Curriculum

Part 1: The Fashion Data Landscape

The fashion industry is facing a bleak data landscape. Lack of transparency, siloed data, data paywalls, and misinformation abound and keep the industry from making effective progress towards sustainability and impact targets. It is increasingly important to be both data literate and to understand how to effectively leverage data in order to be an agent of positive change for the global fashion industry. Instructor Caroline Priebe, founder of The Center for the Advancement of Garment Making, leverages her broad experience to break down the current fashion data landscape including the state of big data, measurement tools, data ethics, motivations for using data, and debunking data myths. The course also covers the use of “good data” in the fashion industry to achieve impact goals including waste reduction, reduced carbon footprint, and reducing pollution.

Part 2: Engage with Fashion Data Practitioners

Engage directly with a series of expert guest speakers working in the fashion data field to apply, advance, and expand sustainability for the global fashion industry. Speakers include experts in data visualization, research, data science, and policy.

Part 3: Applied Project

Apply the skills and knowledge you have gained to an independent project guided Professor Natascha Radclyffe-Thomas. Choose a fashion business and measure, report, and make recommendations on sustainability and impact disclosures in line with the methodology of Fashion Revolution’s Fashion Transparency Index (FTI). Students will provide both a report and a pre-recorded video presentation to their peers and a panel of experts as the final deliverable.

Tuition and Transfer Credit

Fee: $2,325
